Stereotypes of Japan

Today I listened to a podcast called stereotypes of Japan. They talked about stereotypes of Japan.  some of them are predictable, but others I hadn't even considered.
One of things I could not have predicted was that they thought all Japanese people were kimonos. Surprisingly, the images of Japan that foreigners have sometimes old-fashioned, and they often think that all Japanese people wear kimonos and are educated in Japanese culture, such as kabuki. We should probably learn about our own culture once again so that we can explain it to foreigners.
One of things I could have predicted was that they thought Japanese technology was very advanced. But when it comes to everyday items, Japan lags behind. For example, a cell phone that was sold in the U.S. a few years ago is being sold later in japan. In addition, Japan also seems to be lagging behind in installing free wifi, and foreigners live in Japan are frustrated about that.
It was good to know a lot stereotypes of Japan. I also realized that we must have some strange stereotypes about some countries from the view of people in those countries.
